'Tis correct! I saw a CO out in the bush too, which was nice. I didn't see any steelhead remaining up there like I have in past years. And I think your ideas are correct about the 'steelhead express' bringing salmon up there.

I did however hook into a 20" plus brown in there this time. That didn't last long though, after catching wee brookies for the afternoon I wasn't ready whatsoever for that beast to come out!

We hit a really nice hatch of green drakes on the main branch outside of Durham as well.

NEWS As some of you have noticed, our website has been experiencing problems this week. This was due to an explosion and fire in the electrical room where our servers are physically stored. Luckily no data was lost, but it taken some time to reconnect power and re-initialize the programs. This affected nearly one million websites. At the present time power is being supplied by outside generators until they can rebuild their electrical room. Once this is completed, they will have to power down to change over. We will keep you updated regarding their progress. We have been diligently working on following their progress. Thanks for your patience and support.

Yes, many people may not realize that the tribs open later. The reason ( I think) is that the MNR and some volunteers transport steelhead up the river and that they are still spawning

Yes, lots of stoneflies, black with white spots on the wings. I will always wonder how big that fish was that broke me off, I fought it for at least 10 minutes, had 6lb test with 9 ft noodle rod (use it for steelhead and salmon on Georgian Bay)and it went where it wanted to!!

I went 1 for 2. Caught a real nice rainbow at Wilmer ponds, missed a giant fish on the Saugeen River.

Between my eyes and poor light from L.E.D., I decided a rest would be good, darn sinuses are acting up again.

What did you do during Earth Hour? We unplugged all our appliances and turned off all the lights. We got a chance to use our new L.E.D. Hand-crank Lantern. It worked very well. While the light was not strong, we were amazed how long it gave off light.

I tie everything I fish!
bullet brntrout on Thursday 27 March 2008 - 01:39:59
Hi Paul. I do a little fly tying, but just basic flies. I'm still learning, when I have time available.
bullet Paul Boudreau on Wednesday 26 March 2008 - 17:56:36

I really enjoy the sulphur hatches in June on the upper stretches, particularly on the Beatty mid to late june......days to remember each time I'm fishing there!
bullet brntrout on Friday 29 February 2008 - 22:04:50
I'm fairly new to learning the different hatches, but I like the stonefly. It is very prevelant in our area in early June. How about you?
bullet Fish Finder on Thursday 28 February 2008 - 16:06:10
So whats the your fave hatch of the summer on the saugeen?
bullet brntrout on Friday 22 February 2008 - 15:11:47
Been there, done that lots of times. Too bad the trees are out of season...
bullet Fish Finder on Friday 22 February 2008 - 10:05:54
hundreds, literally! The trees on the 'geen tend to take far more flies from me than the trout!!
bullet brntrout on Thursday 21 February 2008 - 09:11:30
I've tied about 15, but half of them went to my nephew for a Christmas present. How about you?
bullet Fish Finder on Thursday 21 February 2008 - 06:37:49
Well, well, well......The gap is narrowing quickly between now and opener. How many flies have you tied??

Fishing Tournamemt 2007
Tournament Winners
Congratulations to all the fishermen who fished our tournament. The winner was 'Rockin Ron' Turgeon, on the left. Kids winner was Aidan Smyth in the middle and Eugene Robertson was winner of the Jerry Hibbs Memorial Trophy (on the right). Also Congrats to James Clarke and David Gray Jr. who came in second and third. It was close fight to the end. Don't worry David you'll catch those guys soon!
Fishing Conditions
It finally was a nice weekend in Southern Ontario last weekend, except for the occasional shower and then the major thunderstorms Sunday afternoon/evening. Rivers continue to be above normal levels for this time of year. A Hudson Bay low pressure system continues to cause cooler than normal temperatures with increased rainfall and thunderstorms. Yvonne at Wilmer Ponds reports that fishing is very good at the ponds. With one brown trout measuring 21 inches and the rest averaging around 15 to 18 inches. Fishing in Lake Erie for pickerel has really picked up in the past week. Due to cooler temperatures, everything is at least 2-3 weeks behind normal. Great Lake levels continue their rise back up to normal levels.
