Ground Hog Day: Brennan the chipmunk is a lot more accurate than Wiarton Willie. He has been right the first 8 years we have checked this. This is better than Punxsutawney Phil, Wiarton Willie or any other Groundhog around.
Brennan the chipmunk has checked his data. He doesn’t look at his shadow, he’s a lot smarter than that!He looks at weather patterns, El Neno, La Nina weather, lunar cycles, solar cycles, volcaonoes (like Iceland’s), the Farmers Almanac, Hudson Bay high pressure systems, talked with robins, ferets, weasels, mice, insects, squirrels, deer, and other forest friends and has made his prediction for 2012
Here is the 2012 Groundhog Day Predictions: Brennan the Chipmunk predicts a Late Spring. Sorry… Wiarton Willie predicts an early spring, hmmm
SANTA: All the kids want to know how close Santa is to their home. Check out Santa as he goes around the world. There are many more features, like Countdown to Track Santa, Santa’s Village, Track Santa in Google Earth, and updates from the North Pole. Track Santa at Norad Tracks Santa See the North Pole, the elves and Santa.
The Baby Chipmunk Story
On Tuesday a chipmunk was accidentally killed in the trailer park. Unknown to everyone, it was a mother. On Friday someone noticed it on the ground, looking for food. Since its eyes weren’t even open yet, they easily caught it and they gave it to me to see if I could help it. It was going to be cold that night, so I made it a little home using an empty case of cookies, and kept it in the trailer (away from my cat Wildfire). I learned how to give it water, by placing the edge of a piece of cloth in water and having it lick the water off. I fed it by holding nuts in front of it and letting it chew it. When holding it, it would let me know if it was hungry or thirsty by softly biting my hand. If it was content, it would just lick my hand and then fall asleep in it. We learned to communicate. All of a sudden, I became its mother. Once, I went for a walk and it was asleep in my hand as I walked through the trailer park. After the first day, it didn’t want to spend any time in the box, but on me. I would place it in the box and it would try to crawl back up my arm and make little squeaky noises. The people who found the baby chipmunk dropped by on Sunday and were amazed at its health and progress. It was running all over me…lol. But on Sunday evening I had to come home, so I gave it to some friends to take care of and once its eyes open, they will release it back to nature. I know that it will come to visit me the next time I am at my trailer. Follow up story: two weeks later we finally got back to the trailer. Baby chippy’s eyes opened 3 days after we came home, just as we had predicted. In nature, the mother chipmuck takes care of its baby for 7-10 days after its eyes open and then has it leave the nest. The day before we got back up there, baby chippy went free. It was in very good health and very lively. On the Sunday morning of the visit to the trailer, I got up and was feeding the chipmunk that resides under my shed. You can see a picture of Brennan below. I looked over towards my friends trailer and saw a chipmunk running up and down the tree there. Could that be baby chippy? It was about the right size. I called it and it immediately came running. It knew me. It came over and I gave it some peanuts. It’s little paws grabbed ahold of my hand and it gave me a nibble on my hand, like it used to when I was taking care of it. Baby chippy is doing great.

Hi Kids: Michael Cobb just sent us this great way to fish, using a Meat Stock Cube Chemical Lure. To find out how it work, just click here It is a great way to experiment and fish. Thanks Michael

Did you know that National Emergency Prepareness week is May 4 to 10th . Are you and your family prepared? There are certain things you should do inorder to be ready.
Be Prepared: Make a Plan
Take the time to discuss emergency planning with your family; this can include such things as: fire, a severe storm, and a flood or power outage. Often times these can occur without warning and your best defence in protecting yourself and your family during an emergency is knowing what to do and planning ahead.
Create a checklist, for your community, your home, and your family and you.
Plan your escape, in the case of an emergency at home. Draw a floor plan, include certain features that could help with your escape, mark two escape routes from each room, remember, some people may need help escaping, choose an outside location for everyone to meet, call the fire Department form a neighbours home, make sure eveyone is familiar with your home escape plan and practice your escape plan.
Don’t forget, to Be Smart and to Be Safe!
On July 14th 2007, we held our annual kids fishing challenge. The challenge was scheduled for 1pm, but mother nature had other ideas. just as we were about to start, it started raining and raining. Sydney was the only brave one to venture out in the rain. We ended up postponing it until 5pm when the weather cleared. Here are some pictures for the kids fishing. I was amazed that I didn’t have to help one kid put their worm on, great going! We supplied the worms and for prizes, all the kids got Dare cookies and Dare crackers. Thanks to everyone that participated.
On Sunday Santa and his Clydesdales came through the park. As everyone knows, Santa’s reindeer feed up during the summer for their big ride Christmas eve. The Clydesdales gladly volunteered to fill in the them.

Do you know when the best time to fish is? Well, at least the position of the moon? This little understood facet of science causes more impact on fish and game behavior than most give it credit. You just have to check the The Lunar Tables link on the top left side of this page, and know when its the best times to fish (so you can out fish your dad). Make sure the fish (rainbow, steelhead, salmon, brown trout, bass, etc)are active, this way you can out fish your parents. !
Since many kids are still learning about fishing, we will give some fishing tips so you can out fish your parents and friends:
The best live baits for pickeral, bass and some trout are minnows, worms and crawdads. Fish them alone the bottom. I like using some split shot or slip sinker and floating jig head.
Two of the best ways to hook a minnow for bass fishing is through the tail or through the lips. I prefer to hook it through its mouth and cheek.
When using a worm, try putting air in the worm. This will keep it slightly off the bottom, and fish will see it better.
There are a few key things to look for when fishing. The most important is structure. Bass and other fish will hang around docks, tree stumps, low hanging trees. Basically anything that will give them shade. Look for the shade on sunny days and you will find the fish.
