Fish Finder05 Jun : 15:34'Tis correct! I saw a CO out in the bush too, which was nice. I didn't see any steelhead remaining up there like I have in past years. And I think your ideas are correct about the 'steelhead express' bringing salmon up there.
I did however hook into a 20" plus brown in there this time. That didn't last long though, after catching wee brookies for the afternoon I wasn't ready whatsoever for that beast to come out!
We hit a really nice hatch of green drakes on the main branch outside of Durham as well.
brntrout05 Jun : 03:26NEWS As some of you have noticed, our website has been experiencing problems this week. This was due to an explosion and fire in the electrical room where our servers are physically stored. Luckily no data was lost, but it taken some time to reconnect power and re-initialize the programs. This affected nearly one million websites. At the present time power is being supplied by outside generators until they can rebuild their electrical room. Once this is completed, they will have to power down to change over. We will keep you updated regarding their progress. We have been diligently working on following their progress. Thanks for your patience and support.
brntrout29 May : 09:55Yes, many people may not realize that the tribs open later. The reason ( I think) is that the MNR and some volunteers transport steelhead up the river and that they are still spawning
Fish Finder29 May : 05:35Good info to have brntrout!! I've been watching that rather closely as well, its right around the corner from me!!
on another note......lookin forward to the opening of one of the 'geens tribs on sunday! can't wait to fish my favourite brookie stream again! woo hoo!!
brntrout30 Apr : 18:56Yes, lots of stoneflies, black with white spots on the wings. I will always wonder how big that fish was that broke me off, I fought it for at least 10 minutes, had 6lb test with 9 ft noodle rod (use it for steelhead and salmon on Georgian Bay)and it went where it wanted to!!

Congratulations to all the fishermen who fished our tournament. The winner was 'Rockin Ron' Turgeon, on the left. Kids winner was Aidan Smyth in the middle and Eugene Robertson was winner of the Jerry Hibbs Memorial Trophy (on the right). Also Congrats to James Clarke and David Gray Jr. who came in second and third. It was close fight to the end. Don't worry David you'll catch those guys soon! |

It finally was a nice weekend in Southern Ontario last weekend, except for the occasional shower and then the major thunderstorms Sunday afternoon/evening. Rivers continue to be above normal levels for this time of year. A Hudson Bay low pressure system continues to cause cooler than normal temperatures with increased rainfall and thunderstorms. Yvonne at Wilmer Ponds reports that fishing is very good at the ponds. With one brown trout measuring 21 inches and the rest averaging around 15 to 18 inches. Fishing in Lake Erie for pickerel has really picked up in the past week. Due to cooler temperatures, everything is at least 2-3 weeks behind normal. Great Lake levels continue their rise back up to normal levels. Best Lures/Bait Trout/Salmon:##2 & #3 Vibrax spinners, worms, minnows, crayfish, J13 Rapala, #5-#7 Kwikfish, Cisco Swimmin' minnow
Downrigging: Spoons (cracked ice, monkey puke), flutter spoons and Lymans. Best time for fishing is very early in the morning (5-6am) using glow in the dark plugs. Work areas that have high concentrations of baitfish. Salmon will sit underneath the baitfish. When lures go through baitfish, turn the boat. Lake Huron 50-60ft, Lake Erie 40-50ft, Lake Ontario 60-80ft.
Flyfishing: Gray Fox, sulphur duns, green drakes, mayfies, minnow imitation, various caddis, green rock worm, iso, and bloodworm. River Flow Rates: Extremely high: Saugeen River (Durham) rising again to high levels at 1.42M, Saugeen River(Walkerton) rising and high at 10.1M, Sauble River (Sauble Falls) high at 1.2M, Sydenham River (Owen Sound) fluctuating wildly and high at 5.2M, and Saugeen (near Port Elgin) very high at 8.9M, Credit River at Streetsville fluctuating and high at 4.7M, Credit River at Orangeville high at 11.2M, Grand River (Doon) high at 4.18M.
Prime Fishing Times: Saturday June 21st: 2:51am to 3:49am (moon overhead), 3:18pm to 4:14pm (moon underneath). Moonrise 10:52pm, moonset 8:58am. Full moon and low moon June 17th. Summer starts Friday June 20th.. A Big Brown Trout
